THE FOUNDATION

A GREAT FINISH
STARTS UNDERNEATH.

Corrosion protection begins with surface condition, contamination control and an adhesion-ready profile. Laser cleaning can remove selected rust and coatings; abrasive blasting can also create a specified anchor profile when needed. Neither method replaces the manufacturer’s cleaning and surface-preparation requirements.

PREP THE METAL FOR THE SYSTEM.

Inspect rust, scale, seams, old coatings and surface integrity. Remove unsuitable residues, check for moisture and soluble contamination, and prepare the surface to the current manufacturer's specifications. Use supplementary preparation when required.

  • Confirm the substrate and prior coating history
  • Clean and prepare an adhesion-suitable surface
  • Check conditions for spray application and curing
  • Follow the current manufacturer application guidelines

OUR SELECTED COATING APPROACH

TWO INDUSTRIAL.
TWO DURAGRADE.

Based on my discussion with Rust Bullet, the planned system for suitable projects is two coats of Rust Bullet Industrial followed by two coats of DuraGrade Color, with an approximate combined dry film thickness target of 12 mils (0.012 inches).

RUST BULLET SYSTEM

FOUR COATS.
ONE PLAN.

Coats 1–2: Rust Bullet Industrial establishes the rust-inhibiting metallic-gray base.
Coats 3–4: Rust Bullet DuraGrade Color completes the selected color finish.

Approximately 12 mils combined dry film thickness is the target—not a promise that every profile and application will measure exactly 12 mils. Application and film build will be verified to the specific project and current manufacturer instructions.

The system above reflects direct verbal guidance discussed for the planned service. It is not presented as a published Rust Bullet warranty or universal specification for all substrates.

WHY THE MATERIALS MATTER

WHY I CHOOSE
RUST BULLET.

Surface preparation is only half the job. For appropriate steel projects, I plan to use the Rust Bullet Industrial and DuraGrade Color system because corrosion resistance, coating durability and a consistent finish matter long after the cleaning is complete.

CORROSION-FOCUSED FORMULATION

Rust Bullet markets proprietary, patented rust-inhibiting coating technology. Industrial is a moisture-cured urethane with metallic aluminum pigmentation intended to form a durable protective barrier.

BUILT FOR DEMANDING EXPOSURE

These products are designed for protection against moisture, abrasion and challenging service environments. DuraGrade Color adds a protective colored finish with UV-resistance characteristics.

TEST DATA YOU CAN REVIEW

Rust Bullet publishes coating comparisons and test information, including salt-spray testing. Test conditions, substrates, preparation and exposure duration matter when interpreting any comparison.

Comparative corrosion tests, including ASTM B117 salt-fog testing when cited by the manufacturer, are laboratory indicators—not guarantees of a particular service life. Product selection and preparation remain project-specific.

CORROSION EXPOSURE IS NOT ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL

WHERE THE SYSTEM
CAN MAKE SENSE.

TRUCK FRAMES & TRAILERS

Steel chassis and equipment exposed to rain, road grime, deicing salts and abrasion.

MUNICIPAL PLOWS & SALT EQUIPMENT

Seasonal equipment with challenging corrosion exposure; prep and coating choices depend on accessibility and condition.

FARM & HEAVY EQUIPMENT

Buckets, implements, frames, attachments and other serviceable steel components.

APPLICATION METHOD MATTERS.

HVLP spraying is the preferred approach being developed for many frames, plows and equipment projects, with other methods considered for appropriate large areas. Product-specific thinning, equipment settings and working times will follow the manufacturer instructions.

OPTIONAL ACCELERATOR

Rust Bullet's Rapid Fire accelerator may reduce recoat time for suitable spray applications. The need for it and its mixing instructions will be evaluated per project—not included automatically in every coating job.

Protective coatings work is subject to project evaluation, required environmental controls, suitable jobsite conditions, and applicable insurance and regulatory requirements.

06
PROJECT BASICS

COMMON
QUESTIONS.

Can laser cleaning or abrasive blasting prepare steel for coating?

Both methods can prepare suitable steel, but the cleaning standard and specified surface profile depend on the coating system. Abrasive blasting may be used to achieve the anchor profile where required; final preparation follows the manufacturer's instructions.

How many coats are in the proposed system?

Two coats of Rust Bullet Industrial plus two coats of Rust Bullet DuraGrade Color, targeting approximately 12 mils of total dry film thickness for suitable work.

Can I choose the finish color?

DuraGrade Color is available in a selection of standard and custom colors. Exact color availability and job suitability are confirmed during the estimate.

How long does it take to recoat or fully cure?

Rust Bullet lists a typical 2–6 hour recoat window and about 72 hours for full cure on both products. Temperature, humidity, thickness and accelerator use can change the schedule.

Are you an authorized Rust Bullet applicator?

Rust Bullet products are the named coating materials under consideration. Mega Surface Restoration does not claim Rust Bullet certification, endorsement or an exclusive manufacturer partnership.
